In Mark 4:1–20, Jesus tells the parable of the sower and confronts us with a question we cannot avoid: What is the condition of your heart under God’s Word? The same Word is sown… but it falls on different kinds of soil. Some hearts are hard and unmoved. Others respond quickly but fall away. Some are choked by the cares of this world. And only one proves genuine—the heart where the Word takes root and bears fruit. This passage reminds us that the issue is not the seed… the issue is the soil. Jesus makes it clear that hearing the Word is not enough. The question is how you hear. Do you truly receive it? Is it shaping you? Is it bearing fruit in your life? Ultimately, this text humbles us and comforts us. If we hear rightly, it is because God has given us ears to hear. And the same God who begins the work in us will bring it to completion.
