In Mark 2:13–22, Jesus continues to reveal who He truly is. When He calls Levi the tax collector to follow Him, Levi immediately leaves everything behind and begins a new life as a disciple of Christ. Soon after, Levi hosts a feast where many tax collectors and sinners gather with Jesus—prompting criticism from the Pharisees.
But Jesus responds with a powerful truth: He came not to call the righteous, but sinners. Like a physician who seeks the sick, Christ comes to heal those who know their need for Him. Jesus also reveals Himself as the Bridegroom, explaining why His disciples are feasting rather than fasting. His presence brings joy and celebration because the long-awaited Messiah has come.
Finally, through the illustrations of the patch and the wineskins, Jesus shows that He is bringing something entirely new—the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan in the New Covenant. This passage reminds us that salvation is not found in man-made traditions or self-righteous works, but in faith in Christ alone. The King has come, and He invites sinners to the feast.
