In Mark 2:1–12 we witness one of the most powerful moments in the early ministry of Jesus. A group of determined friends carry a paralyzed man to Christ, even tearing open a roof to bring him before the Savior. Yet the greatest miracle in this passage is not the healing of the man’s body—it is the forgiveness of his sins. When Jesus declares, “Son, your sins are forgiven,” the scribes immediately recognize the weight of that statement. Only God has the authority to forgive sins. By healing the paralytic, Jesus publicly demonstrates that the Son of Man truly has authority on earth to forgive sins. This passage confronts every listener with the same question faced by those in the room that day: Who is Jesus? If He truly has the authority to forgive sins, then He is not merely a teacher or prophet—He is the Christ, the King, and the only Savior for sinners. And the good news of the gospel is that this same Christ who forgave the paralytic still calls sinners to come to Him today.
