In Mark 1:35–45, we move from the public power of Christ to the inner heart of Christ. After a night filled with miracles and growing popularity, Jesus rises early to pray. Before crowds, before momentum, before ministry demands—there is communion with the Father. The King’s priority is prayer. But the mission of Christ is not driven by popularity or public demand. When the crowds seek more miracles, Jesus moves on to preach the gospel, declaring that this is why He came. Eternal salvation outweighs temporary relief. Finally, we witness one of the most powerful pictures of the gospel in Scripture: the cleansing of the leper. The outcast kneels before the King and asks not merely to be healed, but to be made clean. Moved with compassion, Jesus touches the untouchable and restores the unclean. Here we see a preview of the cross—where the Holy One would bear our uncleanness so that sinners may be brought near to God. This passage confronts us with a question: Will we seek Christ only for earthly comfort, or will we come to Him for cleansing?
